Convergence des émissions par tête de dioxyde de carbone : Le rôle de l'éducation

Cet article a pour but d'analyser le rôle de l'éducation dans la convergence des émissions par tête de dioxyde de carbone dans 85 pays. Pour cela nous nous inspirons de Brock et Taylor (2004) et développons le modèle de Solow vert augmenté du capital humain. L'analyse empirique s'effectue sur des données de panel sur la période 1970-2004 à l'aide de la méthode du GMM-system afin de résoudre le problème d'endogenéité de certaines variables. Nos résultats suggèrent l'absence d'une convergence des émissions par tête de dioxyde de carbone au niveau mondial. Dans les pays en développement il y a une divergence des émissions par tête de dioxyde de carbone et l'éducation semble n'avoir aucun effet sur la pollution. Le moteur de la réduction des émissions de pollution reste le progrès technique. Pour les pays développés, l'éducation est facteur de convergence si et seulement si elle est associée à de bonnes institutions politiques. En absence de celles-ci, l'éducation est facteur de pollution.
