Evaluación de resultados de un curso de inglés ofrecido a beneficiarios de un programa de formación para el trabajo: lecciones de la implementación del programa English without Borders del British Council

Abstract

Este trabajo presenta los resultados del curso de inglés English without Borders dentro del programa Todos a la U para personas beneficiarias en la ciudad de Bogotá. El curso tiene una duración de 6 meses y combina clases de inglés ofrecidas de manera remota por instructores altamente calificados, con actividades asincrónicas complementarias. Comparamos los puntajes en la prueba de inglés EnglishScore antes y después del curso, evaluando cambios en los niveles de certificación y monitoreando la asistencia y progreso en el curso. Encontramos un aumento de 13.9% en el puntaje promedio en la prueba de salida comparado con el examen de entrada, lo que lleva a 35.8% de individuos a subir su nivel certificado de inglés. Este resultado de aprendizaje del idioma está correlacionado con la asistencia al curso: los puntajes para las personas que asisten a más del 90% de las clases son casi el doble que para las personas que asisten menos del 60%. El documento también hace una serie de análisis sobre la heterogeneidad en el aprendizaje. En el corto plazo, se espera mostrar resultados del impacto de tomar el curso sobre el aprendizaje de inglés; y en el largo plazo, entender si un mayor aprendizaje de ingles resulta en personas con mayores niveles de empleabilidad y mejores salarios.
