Determinantes de la migración interdepartamental en Colombia, 1988-1993

Abstract

El presente documento estudia los determinantes de la migración por medio de un modelo gravitacional. El trabajo es pionero en mostrar que las migraciones dependen de los atributos de las regiones de origen y destino, y por primera vez se utiliza la distancia entre éstas como determinante de la migración y la ubicación espacial relativa de los departamentos. También se demuestra que para la escogencia del destino de los emigrantes además del trayecto de desplazamiento importa también la dirección de éste. Esto es así para Colombia en donde en la mayoría de los casos la población tiene gran preferencia por el centro del país como destino principal.
