Mujer rural y violencia dom�stica en Colombia

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza el efecto de los ingresos laborales de la mujer rural sobre la violencia dom�stica en Colombia, entre 2009 y 2013. Con este fin, se construye un indicador de violencia dom�stica contra las mujeres, a nivel municipal, utilizando informaci�n sobre el n�mero de mujeres que fueron atendidas en centros de salud a causa de la violencia dom�stica. Los resultados indican que una mayor generaci�n de ingresos de las mujeres rurales en la mayor�a de los sectores econ�micos (caf�, banano, frutas, cr�a de ganado porcino y comercio) disminuye la violencia dom�stica, mientras que en otros sectores ocurre lo contrario (cr�a de aves de corral y servicios). Esto �ltimo puede explicarse por el hecho de que los servicios y la cr�a de aves de corral son principalmente trabajos dom�sticos que no empoderan a la mujer y son err�neamente subvalorados. Tambi�n se encontr� que una mejora en la actividad econ�mica del municipio y un aumento en la cobertura de la educaci�n secundaria contribuyen a reducir la violencia contra las mujeres.
