Dinámica de la pobreza en Colombia: vulnerabilidad, exclusión y mecanismos de escape

Abstract

En este trabajo se realiza un análisis de las condiciones de pobreza, centrándose en las condiciones materiales, medidas por el índice de Necesidades Básicas Insatisfechas (NBI), para los períodos censales 1973, 1985, 1993 y 2005. Se propone una forma de medir el grado de prevalencia de trampas de pobreza, la exclusión, la vulnerabilidad y el escape de condiciones críticas de la pobreza, de acuerdo con algunos planteamientos de Deaton (2015) en su obra “El gran escape. Salud, riqueza y los orígenes de la desigualdad”. Los resultados apuntan a la existencia de un patrón centro-periferia en la prevalencia de la pobreza. Las condiciones de vulnerabilidad, exclusión y rezago son más predominantes en las regiones Caribe y Pacífico. Estas regiones son también las que deben realizar mayores esfuerzos para cerrar las brechas sociales territoriales.
