La gestión del tiempo de ocio y estudio por parte de los jóvenes: ¿cómo afectan las nuevas tecnologías?

Abstract

Es un hecho contrastable que el desarrollo tecnológico que ha experimentado nuestra sociedad en los últimos años ha generado numerosas ventajas en términos de bienestar para las familias de nuestro país. Asímismo, es también evidente que la implantación de dicha tecnología en el marco familiar ha posibilitado el acceso de los más jóvenes a nuevas formas de entretenimiento que, en muchos casos, ocupan gran parte, no sólo de su tiempo de ocio, sino también de su tiempo de estudio, pudiendo incentivarse, a través de esta vía, el fracaso y abandono escolar. En este sentido, este trabajo pretende ahondar en la repercusión que el uso de los teléfonos móviles, los ordenadores e internet tiene sobre el rendimiento escolar de nuestros y nuestras jóvenes. Para ello, se realizó en el curso 2009 – 2010 una encuesta personal a 706 estudiantes comprendidos entre los cursos de primero de la Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO) y segundo de Bachillerato, pertenecientes a dos colegios de características similares de la periferia de la ciudad de Madrid. Dicha encuesta aborda preguntas sobre las calificaciones obtenidas, el tiempo dedicado al estudio y al uso de dichas tecnologías, la relación familiar con los padres, y ciertos hábitos sociales como el consumo de tabaco y de alcohol, entre otras cuestiones. A través de un abanico de herramientas estadísticas y econométricas, el estudio permite concluir que el uso en el hogar de las nuevas tecnologías de forma habitual y sin mesura por parte de los y las estudiantes repercute de forma negativa en su rendimiento académico, existiendo diferencias significativas entre aquellos/as alumnos/as que utilizan en mayor y en menor medida el teléfono móvil e internet.
