La economía política de lo posible en América Latina

Abstract

Desde la independencia, una de las obsesiones más persistentes de América fue depender de recetas milagrosas. Del estructuralismo al monetarismo, del marxismo al liberalismo, todo el continente bailó un vals de paradigmas interminable, aclimatando a los trópicos las lecciones y los consensos venidos del norte. No obstante, a lo largo de las últimas décadas parece venir esbozándose en América Latina una gran transformación, más sutil --y también más frágil-- que un simple injerto de paradigmas. Las economías de la región han impulsado uno de los más notables procesos de reformas de su historia contemporánea, paralelamente a una transición democrática generalizada. Aunque incompleto e imperfecto, este doble movimiento sincronizado de reformas económicas y transiciones democráticas no deja de ser llamativo.
