Abstract

[fre] La liaison éducation - salaires, vérifiée dans la plupart des pays, relève de trois types d'explication : l'explication économique (l'éducation reçue élève la productivité marginale du travailleur) qui est largement tributaire d'une hypothèse préalable de fonctionnement du marché du travail en concurrence parfaite ; l'expli­cation sociologique (l'éducation dispense un système de valeurs sociales et joue en fait le rôle de sélection des élites parmi la classe dominante) qui présuppose un mode de fonctionnement hiérarchisé des institutions et des entreprises ; l'explication psychologique enfin, qui assigne à l'éducation le rôle limité mais utile de révéler les aptitudes en vue de leur emploi optimal dans le système productif. [eng] The correlation between education and earnings. The correlation between education and earnings is obvious in all countries and may receive three explanations : the economic explanation (i.e. education renders people more productive at the margin) depends on a broad and a priori judgement in favour of the competitive hypothesis on the labour market ; the sociological explanation (éducation disseminates definite social values, in effect recruting people into the ruling elite of the society) rests on the tact that all organizations and firms are hier arc hic all y managed ; the psychological explanation according to which education merely selects people in accordance with their abilities in the productive system.
