Nationale Krankenversicherungssysteme Europas im Systemwettbewerb / National Health Care Systems Exposed to Institutional Competition

Abstract

The health care systems of the EU-member states are based on the social principle but to a different extent, and there are also differences in funding the health care expenditures. Some systems are financed by taxes, others by insurance premiums. Actually to become a member of a specific EU state's health system it is necessary to live or to work in this state. This means e. g. that getting a benefit from a tax-funded type requires paying taxes in this state. Free factor movement and free trade lead to an institutional competition which is weakend by the fact that an individual can only choose between whole bundles of services and taxes.
