•The gasoline supply chain proposed in the 2013 Mexican energy reform is inviable.•A supply chain based on gasoline standardization, collaboration and postponement.•A multi-product pipeline inventory-transport problem.•A Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming Problem global solution methodology.•A real-life study case.
