Energy and food production security under water resources regulation in the context of green development

Abstract

Water resources and energy are the main material basis for the production and life of mankind.The evaluation of the pressure on the local water resources system that is caused by the virtual water flowing out of the coal basins during the transmission of coal and power, the prediction of the supply and demand of water resources in the nine coal basins at the end of the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan.This paper uses the life cycle assessment method to calculate the water footprint of the coal base from 2006 to 2015 in northern China.The results show that: Energy production is rising, but the water footprint of most of the coal basins is declining due to the decrease in the water footprint of unit yield. Over the past 10 years, the modified water stress index (MWSI) associated with the outflow of virtual water has also shown a significant upward trend, with six coal basins reaching a moderate pressure level. As of 2020, the total water footprint of nine coal basins will be 1.57 billion m3. The water resources that can be supplied in the predicted area will be 1.19 billion m3. The water resources needed for the development of Ningdong and Hami in 2020 will be seriously unsuitable for their supply, so the development strategy should be adjusted to ensure the water safety of the bases.
