Abstract

This paper conducts an empirical analysis using data from 2001 to 2023 to examine the relationship among the intensity of intellectual property (IP) protection, foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows, and the share of green products in international markets. The study finds that stronger IP protection exerts a significant positive effect on the market share of green products, and that FDI inflows and trade openness play important mediating roles in the relationship between IP protection and green product market share. In addition, there is significant heterogeneity in the relationship between IP protection and green product market share with respect to the level of economic development and tariff levels; the effects of IP protection are more pronounced in high-income countries and low-tariff countries. The findings offer important insights for policymakers, suggesting the strengthening of IP protection, the promotion of FDI inflows, and the enhancement of trade openness to advance the internationalization of green products. The research also lays the groundwork for future exploration of the dynamic mechanisms of the green product market.
