Understanding how culture-tourism integration affects multidimensional poverty: The mediating mechanism and digital moderation

Abstract

This study examines how cultural–tourism integration affects household multidimensional poverty using panel data from six waves of the China Family Panel Studies and macro statistics. A two-way fixed effects model reveals that greater integration significantly reduces poverty, and results remain robust to endogeneity and sensitivity tests. Digital development strengthens this effect, with stronger infrastructure and business environments enhancing poverty reduction. Mechanism analysis reveals that integration promotes industrial upgrading and improves public service provision. Findings highlight the influence of sectoral integration, supported by digital capacity and public services, in promoting poverty reduction and inclusive development.
