Impact of ethno‐demographic structure of the population on performance of the Russian regions

The paper considers how the productivity and innovations of Russian regions are associated with the heterogeneity of the population by ethno‐linguistic affiliation, as well as by country and region of origin. The study contributes to the corpus of papers on economic impact of cultural diversity with the focus on Russia and addresses questions what are the spatial effects of the impact. We find positive associations of the productivity with population heterogeneity by country and region of origin, and the knowledge generation with heterogeneity within the group of immigrants. Our results also contribute to the economic policy by obtaining positive significant spatial effects for the productivity and knowledge creation for Russian regions and by defining main significant factors for these effects. Este artículo examina la forma en que la productividad y las innovaciones de las regiones rusas se asocian a la heterogeneidad de la población por su filiación etnolingüística, así como por el país y la región de origen. El estudio contribuye al corpus de artículos sobre el impacto económico de la diversidad cultural, centrándose en Rusia, y aborda cuestiones como las de los efectos espaciales del impacto. Se encontraron asociaciones positivas de la productividad con la heterogeneidad de la población por país y región de origen, y la generación de conocimientos con la heterogeneidad dentro del grupo de inmigrantes. Los resultados contribuyen también a la política económica puesto que se obtienen efectos espaciales positivos significativos para la productividad y la creación de conocimiento para las regiones rusas y se definen los principales factores significativos para estos efectos. 本稿では、ロシアの地方における生産性とイノベーションが、民族的・言語的な集団の異質性及び出身地(共和国、州、地方)による集団の異質性とどのように関連するかを検討する。本研究は、ロシアに注目した、文化多様性の経済的影響に関する研究論文コーパスに資する、その影響の空間的効果がどのようなものかという疑問の解明を試みるものである。生産性と民族的・言語的な集団の異質性及び出身地による集団の異質性、及び知識創造と移民集団内の異質性にプラスの関連性が認められた。ロシアの地方における生産性と知識創造に対するプラスかつ有意な空間的効果を得ること、これらの効果の主な重要な要因を定義することにより、今回の結果は経済政策に寄与するものとなる。
