Abstract

Working paper on socio-economic implications of the use of solar energy technology in the Sahel - discusses feasibility and advantages of flat plate collectors' domestic production and rural area applications; stresses advantage for water heating, distillation and thermal pumping; studies application for food drying partic. Fish and vegetables; examines high capital costs, impact on balance of payments, need to avoid dependence, etc. Bibliography, diagrams and map.
