Educación secundaria en América Latina y el Caribe: Los retos del crecimiento y la reforma

Abstract

Este documento fue comisionado por la Red de Educación del Diálogo Regional de Política para la I Reunión Hemisférica celebrada los días 5 y 6 de diciembre de 2000. La educación secundaria es fundamental para el éxito de lasnaciones en este nuevo entorno. Para competir con efectividad, los países latinoamericanos y del Caribe deben enfrentar el reto de ofrecer un mejor acceso a la educación secundaria y, a la vez, mejorar su calidad y pertinencia. En este documento se presenta una síntesis oportuna de estos temas, problemas, investigaciones y mejores prácticas que se adelantan actualmente en la región y en otros lugares. El artículo estima las necesidades fundamentales de recursos cuantitativos, financieros y humanos para los próximos diez años, e identifica una serie de estrategias para enfrentar estos retos de maneras que resulten eficientes en cuanto a los costos. Con base en lo anterior, el presente informe puede ser una guía útil para quienes diseñan políticas educativas.
