Abstract

Cet article propose d'étudier comment le processus d'externalisation d'une activité de production d'une usine nucléaire en « train de se faire » affecte le travail et les temps associés. On observe dans l'industrie, et le secteur nucléaire ne fait pas exception, un recours croissant à la sous-traitance, qui s'accompagne d'un accroissement de la fragmentation du travail. Si la sous-traitance des activités de maintenance ou de certaines activités spécifiques (démantèlement, assainissement) a fait l'objet de recherches, l'externalisation d'une activité de production reste peu documentée. Notre enquête, située au plus près de l'activité de production d'un atelier d'une usine nucléaire, permet de mettre en lumière trois résultats principaux. Premièrement, nous montrons que le processus d'externalisation s'accompagne d'une mise en visibilité de l'activité productive, source de tensions entre donneur d'ordre et sous-traitant. Deuxièmement, l'externalisation génère des conflits intertemporels entre temps continu et discret, mais également entre le temps court de la réalisation de l'activité et le temps long de l'apprentissage. Troisièmement, l'étude révèle que l'externalisation engage les acteurs dans un processus de normalisation de l'activité comme voie de résolution partielle des tensions intertemporelles.
