Abstract

Ce Policy brief examine les effets du chômage sur la santé, tant pour la personne qui perd son emploi que pour les membres de son foyer. Il met notamment en évidence comme mécanismes principaux la baisse de revenu et le choc psychologique. Si certains effets peuvent ponctuellement être favorables, la littérature montre globalement que le chômage a un impact négatif sur la santé, en raison notamment d’un renoncement accru aux soins, d’une dégradation de la santé mentale, d’une hausse des comportements à risque et d’une surmortalité plus élevée. Les conséquences ne se limitent pas à l’individu :elles affectent également le partenaire et les enfants, à travers des répercussions sur la santé, les comportements et les conditions de vie du ménage.
