La competitividad de la cadena del arroz en Colombia: un compromiso con el bienestar del agricultor

Abstract

El presente documento presenta una descripción de la cadena de valor del arroz en Colombia y su desempeno en anos recientes. Se identifican los principales cuellos de botella de la cadena y se plantean unas recomendaciones para solucionarlos. Se brinda información de la construcción del valor agregado de la cadena del arroz para cada una de las cinco zonas arroceras del país, desde la producción del arroz paddy verde hasta la venta del arroz blanco al consumidor final. Se describen los servicios provistos por la industria molinera y los resultados de una encuesta a agricultores disenada ad hoc y realizada para analizar los impactos de estos servicios sobre la productividad, los costos de producción y la satisfacción de los agricultores de arroz que los reciben. Se estiman los determinantes de los rendimientos y costos de producción mediante un modelo econométrico translog. Finalmente, se construye un modelo de equilibrio parcial para el análisis de la política comercial del arroz y se estudian los efectos estimados de una apertura comercial total en el mercado del arroz en 2030.
