[eng] Economic policy and growth prospects in the emerging economies of africa We evaluate the growth potential of African economies up to the year 2010. The analysis is based on the estimation of a model of growth in panel data for 39 African economies during seven five-year periods from 1960 through 1995. Our simulations involve, first, a "baseline scenario" which extends policies observed in the past and, second, an "Emerging Africa scenario" where some African economies keep on implementing the reforms already undertaken and achieve a sustained improvement of their performances. Our results make it possible to disentangle the origin of the gains expected from a sustained improvement of African policies.
