Abstract

[eng] Short term employment ad]ustement to the level of production : from technical relations to behavioural functions. Bernard Guilhon, Jean-Louis Roos. This article is aimed at analysing short term employment fonctions through a dual representation of the industry between a monopolistic sector and a competitive sector. The method is as follows : first, a production fonction is specified for each sector and allows to compute a level of « required » employment. Then a behaoior fonction, also differentiated between the two sectors, completes the influence of technical factors by taking into account other economic, social and institutionnel!, factors. Empirical testing allows to draw the parting Une between the competitive sector (constimption goods) and the monopolistic sector (intermediary and equipment goods). The results are not as clear regarding the behavior fonctions, at least as far as equipment goods are concerned.
