Abstract

Este artículo tiene como objetivo estimar la probabilidad de las aspiraciones al crecimiento de los negocios de los emprendedores colombianos de acuerdo a la generación en la que nacieron. Existe una amplia literatura sobre los determinantes de la aspiración al crecimiento de los negocios, pero no existe mucha evidencia empírica de los posibles efectos derivados de pertenecer a una generación en específico. Se utilizó información proveniente del Global Entrepreneurship Monitor para el periodo entre 2006 y 2017. En particular, los datos fueron tomados de la Adult Population Survey, que mide ciertas características relevantes sobre emprendedores alrededor del mundo. De acuerdo con una muestra de 6.670 individuos se estimaron tres modelos de regresión logística ordinal, uno para cada generación: los Baby Boomers, la Generación X y la Generación Y-Millenials. Los resultados muestran que los emprendedores más jóvenes, los Millenials, tienen una concepción de la vida muy diferente a sus antecesores en relación a la visión sobre la actividad emprendedora como una opción de vida. De hecho, factores estructurales como el género, la educación y el motivo para emprender, resultan significativos para todas las generaciones. Sin embargo, factores relacionados con el contexto como sus habilidades, el temor al fracaso, el reconocimiento y su visión del emprendimiento como una carrera deseable, tienen efectos diferentes en cada generación. Estos resultados son relevantes para el desarrollo de políticas públicas y estrategias empresariales asociadas al emprendimiento en regiones en desarrollo.
