Asymmetric impact of green finance on green hydrogen technology budgets

Abstract

The conversion to a lower-carbon economy relies heavily on financial mechanisms, with green finance as a key driver for green hydrogen technology development. This study analyses the asymmetric impact of green finance on green hydrogen technology budgets across ten economies with the highest R&D expenditures in this sector (USA, China, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, UK, Canada, and the Netherlands). Using the Quantile-on-Quantile method, the study uncovers significant and positive impact of green finance on green hydrogen technology budgets, highlighting distinct trends in each economy. The findings suggest that tailored policy interventions are crucial for aligning green finance with green hydrogen technology development. Policymakers are urged to develop strategies that ensure efficient allocation of green finance to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy systems.
