Rice or Wheat? Evolution of cereal consumption in Bangladesh and Implications for policy

Abstract

•Diets in Bangladesh are shifting from rice dominance toward more wheat consumption.•Rising incomes and urbanization are driving dietary diversification.•Wheat demand is increasing fastest among urban and higher-income households.•Policy must balance rice security with nutrition goals and import-related risks.
