Electric vertical takeoff and landing and consumer intention: An empirical test under a theoretical framework

Abstract

EVTOL offers a rapid and environmentally friendly mode of urban air mobility, however, realizing this innovative solution hinges on consumer intention to ride eVTOLs. Therefore, it is essential to investigate consumers' intention to ride eVTOLs and the factors influencing it. This study seeks to empirically analyze the core elements of the extended TPB through surveys and SEM, explore consumers' intention to ride eVTOLs and their potential influencing factors, and provide suggestions for the application and promotion of eVTOL according to the findings of the research. The results indicate that face consciousness and susceptibility to acrophobia have significant indirect effects on the intention to ride, while perceived risk positively directly affects the intention. The most influential factor affecting consumers' intention is perceived behavioral control. Attitudes towards riding eVTOLs and subjective norms significantly and positively influence consumer riding decisions. Finally, this study provides decision support for stakeholders in formulating relevant policies and marketing strategies to facilitate the application and promotion of eVTOL.
