Abstract

Organisations' green human resources, production processes and other processes would be better positioned to meet the rising challenge of global warming if organisations follow an extensive environmental sustainability and behavioural norms and strategy. In so doing, this article looks at the influence of transformational leadership on employee green dedication and organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) via green dedication in two different studies from two different industries (construction and manufacturing). Study 1 aims to investigate the mediating role of green dedication in linking transformational leadership to employees' green OCB using cross‐sectional data. Study 2 used the same research model as study 1 but with the addition of a moderator (environmental attitude) to affect the impact of transformational leadership on employee green OCB through employee dedication using the time lag approach. In studies 1 and 2, we collected data in supervisor–employee dyad from construction firms and manufacturing enterprises, respectively. The findings of study 1 indicated that transformational leadership has a significant impact on employee green OCB. Green dedication was also found to significantly mediate the association between transformational leadership and employee green OCB. The findings of study 2 showed that environmental attitude moderated significantly the association between transformational leadership and green dedication. This article provides useful insights for environmental researchers, managers and policymakers to reform human resource practices to encourage green organisational citizenship behaviour at work.
