Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is defined as one of the contemporary global systemic risks for society because of its huge impact on all economic agents and economies. This study aims to analyse the public finance and national tax revenues, which are the main source of financial resources for crisis interventions. The study is based on empirical data from open-access databases of national and global origin on econometric modelling. The results confirm the socio-economic risks impact tax revenues in different strengths and degrees in individual EU member states, and proving the importance of specific factors affecting the revenues from the most essential budgetary source (taxes) for any economy should be the basis of the implemented fiscal policy in periods of economic shocks with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic characteristics.
