Produttività, salari e prezzi nelle regioni italiane

Abstract

As in other countries, also in Italy there are spatial differences in labour productivity, wages and prices. In the Southern regions, labour productivity is 30% lower than in the Northern ones, while the gap in average wage is 25%. In the two areas, unit labour costs (ULCs) are similar: this indicates that the productivity gaps are "apparent" and, substantially, depend on the characteristics of the regional productive structures. Between North and South there is also a difference (15-20%) in price levels. Consequently, average real wages are similar in the two areas, but in the South, on equal income, the purchasing power is greater than in the North. Productivity, wages and prices are interrelated and, ultimately, depend on the characteristics of regional productive structures.
