Reducing Poverty, Improving Sustainability: Palm Oil Smallholders are Key to Meeting the UN SDGs

Abstract

Dari total produksi minyak sawit secara global, 40% di antaranya dihasilkan oleh petani kecil (smallholder farmers). Hal ini menunjukkan peranan penting petani kecil, khususnya untuk sektor perkebunan kelapa sawit dalam perekonomian negara berkembang karena peran mereka dalam mengurangi kemiskinan dan meningkatkan manfaat sosial di daerah perdesaan Asia Tenggara. Di Indonesia, lokasi persebaran kelapa sawit yang luas menunjukkan tingkat kemiskinan yang lebih rendah. Budidaya kelapa sawit terbukti memberikan manfaat bagi petani kecil serta masyarakat lokal setempat. Beberapa keuntungan lainya adalah tingginya angka pendapatan, kesempatan kerja yang banyak, dan performa sektor perkebunan yang dapat meningkatkan infrastruktur kesehatan dan pendidikan.
