Towards comparing price support programmes for farmers in India

Abstract

In the post WTO framework, price support programmes have been increasingly replaced with income support programmes. However most of the price based supports in India are production augmenting and its association with sustainable agricultural production of country is well established. The present study is an effort to address various concerns on price support programmes in the country. It collects and presents evidences on different kinds of price support programmes, and compares these with similar production augmenting income support programmes (crop insurances) in the country
