Abstract

Textbooks on Economic Systems in Iran focus on comparing the capitalist, socialist, and Islamic economic systems. With the collapse of socialism in the Eastern Bloc, textbooks on economic systems underwent significant changes: comparative economics replaced the study of economic systems, and the focus shifted from analyzing systems to examining structures and institutions. Economic systems are based on systems theory, while comparative economics is grounded in institutionalism. Comparative economics studies how social, political, and legal institutions shape economic behavior and influence economic performance. The necessity of developing academic textbooks in the field of comparative economics arises from the need to compare the structures of economies—through comparisons of institutions, developmental performance of countries, and economic structures.
