Une décomposition de l'effet de la liberté économique sur la croissance dans les pays en développement

Abstract

Le manque d'efficacité qui caractérise les politiques économiques des pays en développement a poussé plusieurs économistes à recommander un désengagement massif de l'Etat de l'activité économique. La liberté économique est avancée comme une alternative pour des stratégies de développement plus efficaces. Notre travail montre que l'indice de la liberté économique cache l'importance de ses composantes et masque l'importance de l'intervention de l'Etat dans les pays en développement. A travers la méthode de Hansen, 2000, nous montrons que pour des tailles de l'Etat relatives à des scores supérieurs à 5.956 (selon la construction de l'indice de liberté économique), les investissements publics exercent un effet positif sur la croissance.
