Abstract

L'amiante est aujourd'hui considéré comme l'ennemi public numéro 1. Ce scandale de santé publique a eu de nombreuses répercussions et implications. Pourtant, même si aujourd'hui on peut noter un réel consensus sur la pratique de l'amiante et ses dangers, son interdiction est la conséquence de luttes institutionnelles très fortes. Le processus de désinstitutionalisation, qui est le processus par lequel une pratique prise pour acquise est totalement délégitimée, est l'étape la moins étudiée du cycle de vie des institutions. Nous nous intéressons à la façon dont des acteurs peuvent par leurs actions détruire une pratique institutionnalisée. La théorie des mouvements sociaux s'est toujours intéressée aux questions de changement et d'environnement. Elle a à ce titre été mobilisée pour d'autres travaux en néo-institutionnalisme mais rarement dans le cadre d'une désinstitutionalisation. Nous souhaitons grâce à un cadre d'analyse intégrant néo-institutionnalisme et mouvements sociaux montrer l'émergence d'un mouvement social et son impact sur l'institution. Pour cela, nous nous focalisons sur les années 1970-1977 qui marquent la première crise de l'amiante en France. Notre travail s'appuie sur des entretiens avec les acteurs clef du champ, l'analyse de données secondaires (rapports du Sénat, brochures obtenues dans des archives, articles de presse) et nous mobilisons également des archives audiovisuelles.
