Abstract

Cet article part à la recherche du manager par le sens, des outils qu'il utilise, des objectifs qu'il vise, ainsi que des compétences qu'il met en oeuvre. L'investigation s'est déroulée dans le secteur public local, où 10 observations in situ et 58 entretiens ont été réalisés. La fixation d'objectifs, renforcée par une reconnaissance du travail accompli ou, encore, l'utilisation de modes de communication appropriés font partie des modus operandi du manager par le sens. Parmi les effets que ce dernier vise, figurent l'implication, l'engagement et, in fine, la performance. De cette recherche, il est possible de déduire le portrait d'un manager par le sens, au service de la performance organisationnelle, un manager potentiellement réflexif. Manager par le sens, manager réflexif, secteur public local. This research is looking for managers practicing sensemaking in order to manage people, the tools they used, their objectives and their skills. An investigation in the local public sector consisted in 10 observations and 58 interviews. Results detect modus operandi that implement sensemaking as a management practice. Among them, objectives defining, reinforced by an appropriate recognition of the work done can be stressed, as well as the use of appropriate methods of communication. It is then possible to draw the portrait of a manager using sensemaking, serving organizational performance. This manager is, potentially, a reflexive manager.
