Abstract

Within the context of market globalization and the financialization of agriculture, agricultural operations are undergoing profound change. This change coincides with a related evolution of organizational practices and forms. The relationship between cooperatives and the new generation of farmers is weakening. These new farmers, who are better trained and use the Internet, have begun speculating. They are becoming increasingly autonomous financially and participate less and less in cooperative activities. According to the authors who have examined this issue, trust could help strengthen the member-cooperative relationship. Furthermore, cooperatives would be well advised to take steps to restore this trust.
