Tiempo para los buenos aliados comerciales: el impacto económico del Acuerdo UE-Mercosur

Abstract

Tras más de veinte años desde que comenzaron las negociaciones, el 6 de diciembre se alcanzó un Acuerdo final de Asociación entre la UE y los cuatro estados fundadores de Mercosur(Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay y Uruguay). Aunque la UE cuenta ya con numerosos acuerdos comerciales con América Latina, el presente Acuerdo es de enormes dimensiones pues los cuatro países de Mercosur constituyen la quinta economía del mundo, con una población de más de 270 millones de habitantes. Frente al avance de China, la UE será el primer gran socio comercial en formalizar un acuerdo con Mercosur, que ni EE.UU. ni China tienen, otorgando un acceso preferencial a los países de la región. El Acuerdo no ha sido aún ratificado y se espera que la Comisión Europea presente en próximas fechas una propuesta legal al Consejo y el Parlamento Europeo para su formalización final
