Knowledge Sharing in an Insurance Collaborative Supply Chains Network: A Social Network Perspective

Abstract

This research analyses collaboration among members of an insurance supply chains network based on a social network analysis (SNA) approach. A case study strategy is employed, and data are collected from the firm’s accounts in an enterprise online social network via the Yammer® platform. Several SNA techniques (cohesion analysis, multidimensional scaling analysis, cluster analysis) are applied. Firstly, this paper emphasises who the most involved suppliers are and with whom they collaborate. Secondly, it confirms that collaboration appears both within and between supply chain levels. Thirdly, it highlights firms’ tendency to focus on the external environment. Suppliers are interested in not only collaborating with the focal firm, but also with other suppliers situated at the same or a different level. This work has implications for academics and practitioners as it presents a new approach to evaluate and improve collaboration among the members of a multilevel supply chains network.
