La place des mecanismes d’epargne-credit et de pret progressif dans la selection des clients des IMF en milieu urbain : le cas de WAGES en 2010

Abstract

Résumé Au-delà de la garantie solidaire, les institutions de microfinance (IMF) utilisent d’autres mécanismes comme l’épargne-crédit et le prêt progressif pour la sélection de leurs clients. Ce papier met en lumière l’efficacité théorique de ces mécanismes en matière de maîtrise du risque de défaut. A partir des données portant sur une IMF au Togo (WAGES), et en utilisant le modèle Logit binomial, il montre que ces mécanismes sont déterminants dans la sélection des clients. Ainsi, d’un point de vue économétrique, trouve-t-on un lien significatif entre ces mécanismes et la probabilité qu’une demande de crédit soit acceptée. On remarque également un lien significatif entre cette dernière et l’approche genre. Les résultats, bien qu’ils montrent l’importance de ces mécanismes dans la sélection des clients, soulèvent des inquiétudes, notamment le risque d’une dérive de mission. Cette crainte est cependant nuancée par la place important accordée à l’autonomisation des femmes.
