Abstract

A szegénység definíciójának kiterjesztésével és értelmezésének átalakulásával párhuzamosan a szegénység mérési módszerei is megváltoztak. Tanulmányunkban a többdimenziós szegénységi mutatók kidolgozásának és alkalmazásának tapasztalatait vizsgáljuk a latin-amerikai térségben. A mérési módszertan átalakulása és az új mutatók bevezetése nemcsak azt a célt szolgálja, hogy minél reálisabb képet kapjunk a szegénység kiterjedtségéről és a szegények valós életéről, hanem a szegénységcsökkentési szakpolitika megfogalmazása és megvalósítása tekintetében is alapvető jelentőségű. A latin-amerikai körkép jól illusztrálja, hogy a többdimenziós szegénység mérésének nincs egyetlen elfogadott és legjobb módszere, ugyanakkor az érintettek bevonása, valamint a térség egyedi gazdasági és társadalmi jellemzőire való reflexió egyre gyakrabban megjelenik, ami jelentősen hozzájárul mind a szegénység mérésének, mind a szakpolitikai következtetések megfogalmazásának javításához.* Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) kód: I32, O20, O54.
