Miért igazságtalan a 2020-as labdarúgó-Európa-bajnokság kvalifikációja?
[Why is qualification for the 2020 European association football championship unfair?]

Abstract

Egy sportverseny szabályaival szemben alapvető követelmény a minél jobb teljesítmény elérésére ösztönzés. Ez a követelmény sérül, ha a múltban eredményesebb csapatok hátrányosabb helyzetből indulnak. A tanulmány a 2020-as labdarúgó-Európa-bajnokság selejtezőjét vizsgálja ebből a nézőpontból. Számítógépes szimuláció segítségével megmutatjuk, hogy a kvalifikáció valószínűsége lényegesen magasabb, ha egy adott csapat a 2018-2019-es UEFA Nemzetek Ligája D ligájának tetejére kerül, mint ha az erősebb C liga aljára sorolják. A pótselejtező sorsolási rendszere súlyosan büntetett egy válogatottat évekkel korábbi győzelme miatt. A probléma oka a kvalifikáció elhibázott szervezése, a Nemzetek Ligája rossz beillesztése a folyamatba.
