Driving material civilization success:Unleashing supply chain enterprise collaborative research and development using AI

Abstract

Using data from Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies between 2010 and 2024, this research examines how artificial intelligence (AI) affects collaborative research and development (R&D) in supply chain enterprises. Results indicate that AI substantially enhances collaborative R&D in these enterprises. Machine learning and deep learning technologies have a stronger impact on R&D. AI enhances supply chain enterprise collaborative R&D by improving knowledge sharing, enabling informed decisions, increasing collaboration efficiency, and optimizing resource use. Its impact is strongest in high-productivity, technology-driven industries but less evident in sectors with lower productivity and limited technology. There is no notable promotion effect in industry-level collaborative R&D.
