Digital rural development, insurance investment, and agricultural economic resilience

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between the development of digital rural areas, insurance investment, and agricultural economic resilience using data from 31 provincial-level administrative regions in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) from 2013 to 2023. The study finds that the development of digital rural areas and insurance investment can significantly enhance agricultural economic resilience; mediation effect analysis indicates that digital rural development can strengthen agricultural economic resilience by increasing insurance investment. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the impact of digital rural development on agricultural economic resilience is more pronounced in regions with lower levels of population aging and larger urban-rural income disparities.
