Energy value chain and economic impact: Assessing the role of energy end uses-efficient design in reducing energy consumption

Abstract

The growing demand for energy in Asian developing countries poses significant challenges regarding environmental sustainability and economic efficiency. Various policies and interventions have been implemented to promote energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption to address these concerns. One such approach involves the implementation of retrofit programs and energy-efficient design. The primary objective of this paper is to assess the role of retrofit programs and energy-efficient design in reducing energy consumption in Asian developing countries from 1998 to 2022. The study also aims to shed light on the impact of financial instruments in promoting energy investment. The findings generated from this study indicate that retrofit programs and energy-efficient design have played a crucial role in reducing energy consumption in developing Asian countries. These interventions have led to direct energy savings and fostered the adoption of energy-efficient technologies. The findings also highlight the impact of financial instruments in promoting energy investment, particularly in the context of energy-intensive industries. The energy value chain is a critical link in the production and supply of energy. It encompasses various interconnected stages, from the primary energy sources through energy conversion and distribution to the final consumers. By implementing effective retrofit programs and energy-efficient design, Asian developing countries can harness the potential of sustainable energy sources and reduce their carbon footprint.
