Identification in two-score regression discontinuity designs with partial compliance

Abstract

In two-score regression discontinuity designs, the identification framework is well established when treatment assignment follows strict dichotomization rules. However, in practice, compliance patterns may arise from mechanisms beyond these allocation rules, leading to partial compliance that the standard framework cannot accommodate. This paper proposes an extended identification framework and introduces a two-stage least squares (2SLS) estimand to address such cases. Our analysis reveals that the 2SLS estimand aggregates the average treatment effects of four distinct complier groups using non-negative weights.
