Abstract

The objective of this paper is to understand the contribution of corporate governance on the strategic performance of MFIs in Cameroon, in the case of Express-Union Finance S.A. To achieve this, we opted for a qualitative interpretivist approach, which allowed us to enabled through semi-directed interviews to obtain information from nine (09) key players in the parent company located in Yaoundé. The results resulting from the content analysis show, on the one hand, that there are harmful factors linked to corporate governance which hinder strategic performance within this MFI. On the other hand, good leadership on the part of the board of directors through the scrupulous application of the texts in terms of designation of members, appropriation of the missions of the structure; the integration of internal stakeholders in the decision-making process as well as the quality of board members contribute to the strategic performance of Express-Union. Based on the above, we suggest to the managers of this MFI to revisit their governance model which must be more inclusive and favorable to the development of good strategic plans necessary to ensure the sustainability of this structure in a highly competitive environment.
