Nachfrage oder Angebot? Erkenntnisse aus dem Preissetzungsverhalten deutscher Unternehmen während der Coronakrise

Abstract

Im Zuge der Verschlechterung der Wirtschaftslage in der Coronakrise ist die Bundesregierung auf der Suche nach geeigneten konjunkturellen Stabilisierungsmaßnahmen. Umfang und Gestaltung einer wirksamen Politikreaktion hängen dabei im Wesentlichen von der relativen Stärke der Angebots- und Nachfrageverschiebungen in der Krise ab. Wir untersuchen das Preissetzungsverhalten deutscher Unternehmen, um auf die relative Bedeutung von Angebot und Nachfrage während der Covid-19-Pandemie zu schließen. Es zeigt sich, dass sowohl Angebots- als auch Nachfrageeffekte zeitgleich auftreten, die Nachfrageeffekte in der Frühphase der Coronakrise jedoch eine dominante Rolle spielen. In Folge des erheblichen Rückgangs der Gesamtnachfrage prognostizieren wir, dass die Erzeugerpreisinflation durch die Coronakrise bis August 2020 um bis zu 1,5 Prozentpunkte zusätzlich zurückgehen wird. Unsere Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass fiskalpolitische Maßnahmen zur Stärkung der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Nachfrage erheblich zur wirtschaftlichen Stabilisierung beitragen können.
