Abstract

This paper appraises the impact of financing a resilient mining infrastructure on the economic growth of Africa. It applied a systematic review of the literature approach. The review was focused on studies published from January 2000 to April 2025. Literature selections were drawn from the Google Scholar index, specifically with the search terms Africa, resilient mining infrastructure, economic growth, finance or investment, public-private partnerships, or foreign direct investment. Findings from the literature review indicate that a mix of strategies which may facilitate the success of a resilient mining infrastructure includes, among others, stakeholder involvement, climate-resilient infrastructure planning, the adoption of sustainable design, the building of new infrastructure, investment in renewable energy, enhancement of governmental and regulatory frameworks, technology innovation, and improvement of automation. Findings also indicate that some impediments to financing resilient manufacturing include scarce financial resources, the low level of a long-term financing of infrastructure, the absence or low-level of infrastructure programs, pervasive corruption. Therefore, the paper emphasizes the imperative for African governments to foster pragmatic partnerships with mining corporations to enhance resilient infrastructure that may catalyse economic development.
