Abstract

Social media can be used to manage information flow in teams, thereby empowering knowledge management, which can be linked to innovation. This study develops a model to test the influence of social media on transactive memory system, absorptive capacities (potential and realized capacity), and team innovation performance. Partial least squares analysis on 61 software development teams indicates the positive impact of social media on transactive memory system and potential and realized absorptive capacity, which in turn can influence team innovation performance. This article presents theoretical contributions and describes implications for social media adoption in knowledge-intensive teams.
