Abstract

Poverty is to a large extent a reality for populations of all the Chadian regions. Its measurement can be taken by many ways that imply different conclusions, in particular in term of regions ranking. This paper use an approach linked to the Sen’s capabilities concept by adapting the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) of Alkire and Santos (2010). It considers three dimensions, namely health, education and living standards. It results that the deprivations on the living standards dimension contribute nearly to the half in poverty in Chad. In the northern regions, on the contrary to southern regions and N’Djamena, educational deprivations contribute more to poverty than health deprivations. The results robustness is assessed, showing that the capital city dominates with no doubt all the other regions.
