Abstract

This book is based on the research conducted for my doctoral dissertation in fulfillment of the PhD in Science, specializing in Agricultural Economics and Local Development. The central hypothesis posits that the application of agricultural economics to farming and forestry activities provides essential insights for sustainable local development, serving as a vital tool for policymakers and decision-makers. Consequently, this study emphasizes the strategic importance of economic analysis in these sectors. This basic text serves as a core resource for the Agricultural Economics curriculum within Agricultural and Economic Science programs. Its primary objective is to provide students, professionals, and academics with a foundational document that includes both theoretical frameworks and analytical instruments for developing practical exercises and case studies. The book highlights the role of agricultural economics in fostering sustainable local development and its applicability to the forestry and agricultural sectors. It offers a comprehensive methodology for sector analysis and identifies adequate strategies for achieving sustainable rural development. In the academic and research fields, there is a constant need to validate profitability, evaluate new technologies, and develop cost structures or marketing studies. Agricultural economics plays a leading role in addressing these alternatives. Therefore, the reader will find the necessary techniques to measure policy impacts and contribute to sustainable local development through evidence-based research.
